The Teacher Education Program at the University of Central Missouri (UCM) is committed to developing competent, caring and reflective practitioners who demonstrate the belief that all students can learn. We prepare individuals as professional educators for an ever-changing, culturally diverse population.

Our program is based on the belief that future educators cannot learn all they need to know about teaching while sitting in a college classroom. Our approach integrates instruction with field experiences, and this provides numerous opportunities for our candidates to work in classrooms with PK-12 students and teachers. Our central location allows field placements in urban, suburban and rural school districts. Strong partnerships with school districts in the Kansas City area ensure our teacher candidates have the chance to learn about teaching through extensive and frequent field experiences in diverse settings. Our faculty accompany teacher candidates during field experiences to provide support, coaching and mentoring.

Regardless of the grade level or subject matter you want to teach, UCM has a program for you. We offer programs leading to Missouri teaching certification at the elementary, middle school and secondary levels. In addition, we have programs for teacher candidates coming to us immediately after high school, for those transferring from two-year and other four-year institutions, and for those considering changing careers.
