Undergraduate applicants must first apply to the university. Once accepted to the university, you can formally apply to the Educator Preparation Program.

Apply to the University

For applicants under the age of 21 at the time of enrollment

If you are under 21, the following University of North Carolina system minimum course requirements (MCR) are required:

Four units of English
Four units of Math (Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, and an Advanced Math)
Three units of Science (Biological Science, Physical Science, and a Science with a Lab)
Two units of Social Studies, including one unit of U.S. History
Two units of Foreign Language (same)

For applicants who are 21 years or older at the time of enrollment

If you are over 21, you must provide proof of:

Successful completion of high school, or
GED certificate program, or
Adult diploma certificate program

Apply to the Educator Preparation Program

You must be formally admitted to the Educator Preparation program by the end of your sophomore year. To apply, you must:

Complete your freshman and sophomore level courses.
Have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.80.
Have passing scores on the Praxis Core Academic Skills exam.
Purchase a Watermark/TaskStream account.
Complete Educator Disposition Assessment (satisfactory ratings)

In addition to satisfying the Educator Preparation Program admission expectations, students must attend semester major/candidate meetings, professional development activities, advising conferences and required field experiences, internships and other community-based expectations of their degree program.

Note: Interested students can also add K-12 Special Education: General Curriculum Licensure Certification to their BS Elementary Degree. In addition to the required 12 hours of special education coursework, students will work with special education faculty to take an additional 6 credits of coursework and complete the additional licensure exams.
