Meet Jose Guerrero
Be prepared for a challenge. But also be prepared to open up your heart. Heighten your level of understanding. You have the power to give back and the product of all that is both meaningful and worth it. I know when I get home, I've changed a student's life.
Why I Teach
While growing up in South Texas, Jose always knew he wanted to make an impact in children’s lives, but wasn’t sure if he wanted to be a teacher - much due to national stigmas around the teaching profession. After working with FedEx for seven years, Jose met someone in a teacher preparation program at his job. He began to pursue his interest in teaching by applying to substitute positions, and the rest is history.
“What I eventually saw was that students needed leadership and mentorship,” he said.
“They needed someone who was like them and had their experiences to help motivate them.”
Jose received a Bachelor’s of Science in Biology from the University of Wyoming and his Master’s in Science Education at The University of Texas at Dallas. He has been at METSA at Turner with CFBISD for 10 years.
