
The Bard College Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) is a graduate program that helps you become a teacher for grades 7-12. This program leads to a master's degree and initial teacher certification. Bard College prepares you to bring innovative teaching practices into the classroom. You will influence how secondary school students think about learning by encouraging them to adopt thoughtful and self-determined mindsets. For your teaching certificate, you may choose one of five subjects: biology, history, literature, mathematics or Spanish.

The Bard MAT program offers generous need-based scholarships to help you with tuition costs. Plus, you can apply for federal loans. Everyone can apply for scholarships, but only U.S. citizens and permanent residents can apply for fellowships and loans. There are also federal loan forgiveness and grant programs available for teachers. Find more information here.
Loan Forgiveness
Under the Federal Teacher Loan Forgiveness Program, if you teach full-time for five consecutive years in a low-income school or educational service agency, you may qualify to have up to $17,500 of your Direct and Federal Stafford Loans forgiven. It's a great way to lighten your loan burden!
