Program Info

The Field-Based Elementary Program uses a unique, hands-on apprenticeship model to help prepare future teachers—especially teachers of color—for the elementary classroom. Supported by the Ground Up Coalition, the program lets you work as a paraprofessional in real classrooms while earning your bachelor's degree in elementary education over three years. You’ll be in the program for nine semesters total—including summer, fall, and spring each year.

You’ll gain extensive classroom experience and learn how to teach using culturally relevant practices, all while moving through the program with a cohort of peers for support and connection.

Ground Up Coalition partners include BSU, Black Men Teach, Freedom Schools, Sankore, Youth Science Center, Project Momentum and Education Minnesota.
