You’ll begin the program by taking introductory education courses. You will also take the Missouri General Education Assessment (MoGEA) test. You’ll get to participate in monthly education meetings with other education majors to start to develop relationships with peers. The student organization puts on events throughout the year to get new students involved in the community and working with K-12 students. 

You’ll kick off your sophomore year by taking the field experience course to start getting observation hours and direct experience in the classroom. You will complete at least 30 hours in the classroom teaching lessons to K-12 students. Monthly education major meetings, education events, and professional development opportunities will continue.

It’s your junior year. You’re older and wiser. You will start to take field-specific courses, and spend more time planning and teaching lessons to students in addition to completing your coursework. You will also get to take on more leadership roles in student organizations. 

You’ll start to plan for your student teaching semester, in which you implement all that you have learned during coursework and observations by teaching in a K-12 classroom. You will also get to perform your end-of-program certification tests so you can move right into teaching upon graduation.

As a student at C-SC, you will be taught by professors who have experience in the classroom. C-SC’s Education Program believes in immersing their students in the classroom, which starts in your sophomore year through at least 30 hours of observation and teaching lessons. This continues on in your junior year, and in your senior year, you will be student teaching in your senior year for 15 weeks.

Courses at C-SC are designed to focus on the importance of working with students from various backgrounds, including special needs and learning styles. During your coursework and fieldwork, you will get to practice lesson-planning to consider all types of students.

CS-C will provide an enthusiastic and cooperative teacher and faculty supervisor for you throughout your fieldwork for guidance and feedback.

C-SC works closely with local school districts. One of their partnerships with Canton R-V School District has supported C-SC’s teacher candidates through hands-on experiences in the classroom. Partnerships with other school districts in the area provides you with a wide variety of experiences in diverse settings.
