Program Info

The Teacher Education Transfer programs are designed for future teachers. You’ll earn an Associate of Science degree and start your journey toward a bachelor’s degree and New York State teacher certification. You can choose from the following programs: 

  • Early Childhood Education (birth- grade 2)
  • Childhood Education (grades 1-6)
  • Adolescence Education (grades 7-12) 

You’ll learn the basics of teaching in the classroom while exploring key aspects of the profession. With a balanced curriculum that includes education classes, general education requirements, and courses within your chosen academic major, you’ll be ready for seamless transfer to a four-year school. 

Monroe Community College is proud to be the first community college in the nation invited to join the prestigious International Honor Society, Pi Lambda Theta. As a student, you can apply for membership.

This degree is part of the New York State Free Community College program, which covers the costs of tuition, fees, books, and supplies after other forms of tuition assistance, such as New York State Tuition Assistance Program, are applied. To be eligible for free tuition in a high-demand field at a SUNY community college, you must meet the following criteria:
✔ New York State resident
✔ 25-55 years old at time of enrollment
✔ No college degree
✔ Planning to study full-time or part-time in an eligible degree program

Up to $6,000

Work Study, Working While Still Enrolled

You could earn up to $6,000 through work-study, depending on your financial need.
