The St. Vrain Valley School District's Alternative Licensure Pathway to Special Education (ALPSE) program directly addresses the pressing need for highly qualified Special Education professionals in the region. This two-year, cohort-based program is for individuals who want to become licensed as Special Education Generalists, working with students ages 5 to 21. To be eligible, you must have a bachelor’s degree and a current teaching position in either special or general education.
ALPSE offers a pathway to earn your initial Colorado teaching license. There are two options to join, depending on your current role:
- If you’re a current SVVSD employee, you’ll meet with your cohort group in person.
- If you work in another Colorado school district, BOCES, or charter school, you’ll attend live online sessions with your cohort, interacting in real time.
Rolling admission is based on your date of hire, so you can start the program at any time during the year.
Through ALPSE, you’ll receive hands-on training, one-on-one mentorship from experienced educators, and ongoing support in a collaborative environment. You’ll learn alongside other aspiring teachers while gaining the skills and experience needed to support students with a wide range of learning needs.
This program is for people ready to make a real difference in the lives of students with special needs. By joining ALPSE, you’re not just preparing to teach—you’re building a meaningful career helping every student grow, succeed and thrive.
