First-Year Admission

You must first apply to TWU and then to the educator preparation programs. Please note that admission to TWU does not guarantee admission to the educator preparation program.

To meet the requirements for regular admission to TWU you must meet all of the following requirements.

High school graduation, coursework, and GPA requirements

Graduated from a regionally accredited high school, homeschool program or hold a GED or HiSET* certificate of completion
Earned at least a 2.0 high school grade point average on a 4.0 scale
Ranked in the top 50 percent of your high school graduating class
Met curriculum requirements:
- If you graduated from a Texas public high school: Completed or enrolled in the Foundation, Recommended or Distinguished Texas High School Curriculum, or an International Baccalaureate Program; OR
- If you attended a private Texas high school or an out-of-state high school: Completed or enrolled in a college-prep curriculum as outlined below:
  - English (4 semester credit hours)
  - Math (3 semester credit hours, including Algebra II)
  - Science (3 semester credit hours)
  - Social Studies (3 semester credit hours)
  - Academic Electives (3 semester credit hours)

Testing requirements

Met one of these SAT or ACT score requirements: This requirement is temporarily suspended in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
- If you took the SAT prior to March 2016: 1000, based on Critical Reading and Math combined
- If you took the SAT after March 2016: 1080, based on Evidenced-Based Reading and Writing, and Math combined
- If you took the ACT: 21 or above, composite

Transfer Admission

You must first apply to TWU and then to the educator preparation programs. Please note that admission to TWU does not guarantee admission to the educator preparation program.

To meet the requirements for transfer admission to TWU you must meet all of the following requirements.

Attended a recognized-accredited academic institution
Earned a minimum of 12 or more college-level credits after earning your high school diploma or GED
Earned a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0 on a 4.0 scale on all transferable college-level coursework attempted*
In good standing with your previous schools

You may transfer credit hours from junior or community colleges. All such credit is accepted as lower-level semester credit hours unless otherwise approved by academic leadership. There is no maximum number of semester credit hours transferred from four-year institutions, and these semester credit hours will be accepted at the level taken.

*All grades, including Fs, will be considered in the calculation of GPA to determine admission. Several departments have higher grade point average requirements for enrollment in advanced or upper-division coursework. Developmental coursework is not transferable.
