With a TWU undergraduate or graduate degree in Education and Early Childhood Education, you can be certified as an in-classroom teacher, school counselor, principal, superintendent and more.
The Bachelor of Science in Education in the Department of Teacher Education at TWU graduates profession-ready teachers in a number of certifications. Our students can be fully certified at graduation. Our students graduate with content knowledge in the area where they will teach, the ability to work with culturally and linguistically diverse students, and demonstrated teaching skills before entering the classroom.
TWU students will be teachers prepared to work with diverse populations, including students with exceptional needs, English Language Learners and more. Texas Woman’s University is designated as a Hispanic-Serving Institution and was one of the earliest higher education institutions in the region to train bilingual teachers.

TWU knows that until you see something in real life, classroom lessons don’t always register. Texas Woman’s University offers hands-on teaching experiences before you set foot in a classroom. See some of the technology we work with to make that happen.
At TWU, you can “practice” teaching on realistic, responsive avatars through augmented and virtual reality for the opportunity to analyze what works and what doesn’t before beginning teaching actual students.
Classrooms reflect their community. Whether you seek to teach all subjects in the lower grades, specialize in a subject (such as math, science or English), or want to become certified in special education, bilingual education or English as a Second Language, TWU will prepare you to meet the needs of all students.
When you’re ready for student teaching, TWU’s Office of Clinical Practices (OCP) will pair you with a school where you will observe and work with a highly accomplished teacher. In this role, you become an important and integral part of the host school system under the direction of a certified classroom teacher and a university supervisor in area school districts. The OCP maintains relationships with schools and related education settings for student teaching placements in early childhood through grade 12. We will work with you on a placement that makes sense for you. All Texas Woman’s placements go through the OCP to ensure proper procedures are followed for district placements.
TWU Educator Preparation Program (EPP) graduates as first-year teachers have the highest retention rate among 56 universities in Texas served by the Center for Research, Evaluation and Advancement of Teacher Education (CREATE), according to Performance Analysis for College Education (PACE) data.
When analyzed by school levels, TWU graduates as first-year teachers also have the highest retention rates across all public elementary, middle and high school levels.
This shows that TWU graduates are well-prepared for the classroom. But TWU also offers mentorship beyond graduation, which plays an important role in teacher retention. TWU faculty continue to mentor their students after graduation, both individually and through the New Teacher Academy.
